Radical Listening Week 2023

Join Culture Central and More than a Moment (MTAM) for a week of Radical Listening sessions.

Throughout the week, we will create a platform for the voices of marginalised creatives and culture sector professionals to be heard and valued, enabling collective learning, healing, and the possibility of transformative action.

Participants are encouraged to suspend judgment, assumptions, and preconceived notions, creating a safe space for open and honest dialogue.

How it works:

  • Every day of the week, we will host a different lunchtime session focusing on a particular community within the cultural sector: South Asian, LQBTQIA+, D/deaf, disabled and neurodivergent, working class and Black creatives

  • Each session will have a lead facilitator and two contributors who will discuss their lived experience of navigating the culture sector and the key factors that are barriers to that group's success. The goal for these sessions is not for people to relive trauma, as much as we want to hold a consultation on what changes need to happen.

  • The events will be streamed live on our YouTube channel. The focus is on truly understanding others, rather than simply waiting for one's turn to speak. However, we welcome attendees to participate by engaging with the conversation in the comments, sharing in the work of how change can happen to dismantle the barriers under discussion.

To make the time purposeful and powerful, we encourage all attendees to come to these sessions having done some pre-research and consideration about the topic of discussion and ready to think about action.

Culture Central and MTAM have deeply considered what representation for each of the groups we’re talking to looks like. We acknowledge that no community is a monolith and there are important intersections across all identity experiences. The lens of our selected representatives will not reflect the views of everyone in that group. We hope that with participant contributions during the week and a follow-up Critical Dialogue event (more information TBA), we will do what is within our capacity to hold space for an authentic range of diverse artists and diverse audiences.

Get involved

We invite you to register for updates about the programme and related sector change events.

Although the event will be streamed openly via YouTube, this is your opportunity to get recordings straight to your inbox and receive relevant follow-up content and involvement opportunities.
