Get Creative Support Programme

Culture Central are working with Birmingham City Council to support the development of Creative Producers in the city who received Get Creative grant funding this year. The support will be delivered through a series of knowledge exchange and 1-2-1 support sessions.

This programme aims to better connect and support the whole of Birmingham’s cultural ecology alongside bespoke action focused learning and development.

We’re providing support to creative leaders and producers at all career stages who are working on projects funded by the Get Creative grants programme. Our goal is to enhance participants' producing skills and knowledge, empower them to become active and influential within their communities, and nurture the aspirations of Birmingham’s artists and creatives.

The support also aims to increase grassroots capacity and skills, enabling producers to lead community creative engagement, foster co-creation, and access resources for delivering innovative projects and programmes - all in support of a vibrant and successful creativity economy in the city

Background

Birmingham City Council's Cultural Development Service was awarded money as part of the West Midlands Combined Authority's and HM Government's Commonwealth Games Legacy Enhancement Fund to deliver a grants programme. The Get Creative funding was made available to Birmingham arts organisations or groups to deliver creative projects across Birmingham amplifying the positive impact of Birmingham 2022.

Alongside the grants BCC and Culture Central have partnered to deliver a support programme for creative practitioners, facilitators, managers, project organisers and communicators within arts communities. Successful grant applicants were asked to identify an individual to benefit from the support programme.

Programme Delivery

Knowledge Exchange

We have organised five half-day knowledge exchange sessions with some of the regions cultural institutions, including Birmingham Hippodrome, Midlands Arts Centre (MAC), Birmingham Museums Trust, the Royal Shakespeare Company (RSC) and one from our own organisation.

Participants will hear about the organisations vision, work, plans and ambitions and also understand their offer for working with artists, producers and communities.  Following these presentations, participants will engage in knowledge exchange dialogues with Get Creative producers, sharing their own practices and insights on creative placemaking.

We will end each session with a collaborative workshop to explore and develop future plans and activity with a focus on the question: “What happens for our place when we all work together?”

1-to-1 Sessions

Alongside the Knowledge exchange programme, we will offer the participants a 1-to-1 session with a member of the Culture Central team. These sessions are tailored to the participant’s specific needs, offering advice, knowledge, and skill development in areas they’ve identified.

Participants will receive a £250 bursary to support their attendance at the five knowledge exchange sessions (£50 per session).
