Culture Central is a collective voice and development organisation for culture in the Birmingham city region established in 2016. Culture Central is an open membership body representing and working on behalf of arts organisations, practitioners, agencies and other organisations engaged in the cultural sector. Since its formation, Culture Central has developed and delivered a portfolio of strategic projects ranging from Birmingham’s largest cultural festival (Weekender17) to a range of leadership initiatives relating to the future economic and community drivers of the city region. Culture Central is an industry led body working progressively with the public and private sector structures. Dance Hub Birmingham is a flagship Culture Central project. Culture Central’s Board includes representatives from the cultural, business and university sectors.
This new role has been created to oversee the finance and administrative functions of Culture Central. Primarily based in the office, you will be highly organised and interested in playing a direct role in building the company. You will be experienced in finance and administration, and be looking for a new challenge at an exciting time for Birmingham’s cultural sector.
Culture Central is a Company Limited by Guarantee. It is not registered as a Charity but its Articles of Association conform to standard Not-for-Profit principles. It is possible that charitable registration will be investigated or the establishment of a charitable subsidiary company will be implemented.
The turnover of Culture Central is dependent upon the projects which are undertaken each year and the scale of these can range significantly. It is expected that the turnover for 2017/18 will be just under £1million (subject to audit) whilst in April 2018 there were two projects undertaken which alone totalled £1.6 million.
Several of these projects have their own Steering Committees or Project Boards and therefore require stand-alone management accounts. Some are also subject to rigorous funding conditions which require regular financial updates and final certified accounts.
POST:Finance and Operations Manager
SALARY: £40,000 (depending on experience)
LOCATION:The post holder will be based at Birmingham Chamber of Commerce
HOURS The post is based on a 40 hour working week but the post-holder may be required to work additional hours as required to fulfil the needs of the role. It is expected that the post will require some flexibility for evening or weekend duties which may form part of normal working hours or for which compensatory time off will be granted.
REPORTS TO:Deputy CEO, Culture Central
WORKS WITH:Works closely with the CEO and Culture Central team including bookkeeper.
